从失败中学习小学英语教师的反思之路AsaprimaryschoolEnglishteacherIveencounteredmyfairshareoffailuresthroughoutmyteachingcareer.Thesefailureshavenotonlybeenhumblingbuttheyvealsotaughtmesomevaluablelessons.ThroughreflectionandanalysisofmyownteachingpracticesIvebeenabletoidentifyareaswhereIvefallenshortandimplementchangestoimprovestudentlearningoutcomes.Lookingaheadto2023ImexcitedtocontinuemyjourneyasanEnglishteacherwitharenewedfocusontheimpactofmyteachingpractices.HereareafewexamplesofsomeofthereflectionsIvemadeandthelessonsIvelearnedthroughmyfailures.Lesson1:TheimportanceofdifferentiatedinstructionIntheearlystagesofmycareerIhadthetendencytodeliverone-size-fits-alllessonstomystudents.Thisapproachfailedtotakeintoaccountthevaryinglevelsofabilityinterestandlearningstylesofmystudents.IsoonrealisedthatIneededtostepupmygameintermsofofferingdifferentlearningexperiencestostudents.OnelessonIlearnedwasthatwhenitcomestoEnglishliteracyinstructiononesizedoesnotfitall.Somestudentsmayexcelatreadingwhileothersmaystrugglewithlisteningandspeakingskills.RecognisingthesedifferencesIstartedtoofferdifferentiatedinstructioninmyclass.Thisinvolvedtailoringlessonstodifferentstudentsneedsbyincorporatingarangeofactivitiessuchasgamesmultimediaresourcesgroupworkandindependentstudy.Notonlydidthisapproachpromotegreaterstudentengagementbutitalsohelpedtoimproveoverallstudentperformance.Lesson2:TheneedforongoingassessmentAnotherlessonthatIlearnedthroughfailurewastheimportanceofongoingassessmentinEnglishliteracyinstruction.InthepastIhadreliedheavilyonfinalexamsasawayofmeasuringstudentlearning.Howeverthisapproachdidntprovidemewithenoughinsightsintostudentperformanceduringthecourseoftheterm.ThroughongoingassessmentIlearntthatIcouldtrackstudentsprogressandtailormyteachingtotheirneeds.Thisinvolvedtheuseofshortquizzesobservationanddiscussionopportunitiesaswellaspeerandself-assessments.WiththesemethodsIcouldeasilyidentifyareaswherestudentswerestrugglingandaddresstheseissuesthroughtargetedinterventions.Lesson3:ThepowerofstudentcollaborationThethirdlessonIvelearnedisthepowerofcollaborationbetweenstudentstoenhancelearningoutcomes.InthepastIhadlimitedopportunitiesforstudentstoworktogetherbecauseIbelievedthattheywouldbecomedistractedandlosefocus.HoweverIsoonrealisedthatworkingcollaborativelycouldleadtogreaterengagementandimprovedlearningoutcomes.InrecentyearsIveincorporatedmoregroupworkandpeerteachingintomylessons.Iassignstudentswithsimilarabilitiesdifferenttaskstoworkontogetherthuspromotingasenseofteamworkandallowingformorepersonalisedfeedback.Ivealsoseenthatthisapproachbreedscreativityandpositivecompetitionamongstudentswhichisagreatmotivatorforlearning.InConclusionOvertheyearsIvecometorecognisethatfailureisanopportunityforgrowthandlearning.EverysetbackhastaughtmevaluablelessonsthathavehelpedmetobecomeabetterEnglishteacherformystudents.AsIreflectbackonmyexperiencesIcanseehowfarIvecomeandthechangesthatIvemadetomyteachingpractices.Lookingaheadto2023Imexcitedtocontinuethejourneyandseehowmystudentsthriveundermyguidance.第PAGE页共NUMPAGES页。
