2.Course DescriptionEnglishVideo2is a basic requiredcourse forfreshmen non-English majorstudents.Throughdirect instruction,videos,lecture,modeling,pair,and groupwork activities,students will be givenanencouraging,relaxed,and enjoyableatmosphere withinwhich topractice theirlistening andspokenskills anddevelop confidencein understandingand speakingEnglish at abasiclevel.Thecourse aimsto cultivateand improvestudents*listening comprehension,verbal skills,and theabilityto engagein cross-cultural communicationso thatstudents canuse Englisheffectively fortheexchange ofinformation intheir futurework andsocial interaction,while increasingtheirself-learning abilityand culturalqualities,and laya solidfoundation forfuture sustainabledevelopment.

1.Knowledge andskills objectives:Students will be ableto understandconversations andlectures inEnglish,familiar themes,andlengthy Englishradio and television programsataspeed of150-180words perminute,grasping thecentraleffect,and seizingthe keypoints andrelevant details.Students willbe ableto speakEnglishfluently ongeneral topics;express personalopinions,emotions,and viewpoints;make basicstatementsof factor reason;and describeevents.Students expressionof fluency,pronunciation andintonationwillbebasically correctand they will useeffective conversationalstrategies inconversation.
2.Process andmethod objectives:To meetthe needsof studentsat differentlevels,a combinationof watchingvideos,personalizedEnglish teaching,student independent learning andteacher inputwillbeimplemented.Students willlearncommunicative skillsthrough avariety ofscenarios,repetitious listening,speaking practice,and writtenmaterial.Students willbe involvedin discussions,lessons andextracurricular activitiessothat theyhave achance topractice andexchange learningexperiences.

7.Teaching methods:Methods rangefrom smalltask-based teachingto largegroup lectures.Specific teaching methodsinclude lectureSocratic;interactive/responsive;extensive modeling;directed self-learning;individual,pair,and grouplearning;watching anddiscussing videos;debate;and explanation.Allowing thestudents tosolve specifictasks willimprove theirabilities ofautonomous selflearningandproblem solvingand willalso cultivateindependent thinking,the spiritof cooperationand thespiritof innovation.
8.Learning needsofstudents
1.Method of this course,strategies and educational resourcesMethodis focusedon watchingvideos,completing textbookexercises,classroom interactionandspoken activitiesbetween teacherand student,among pairs,and withinsmall groups.
2.Required extra-curricular readingandeducationalmaterialsTextbook readingandreview,aswellas watchingassigned videos,is requiredas appropriate.As avideo Englishcourse,the emphasisis onclassroom watching,listening andspeaking incombinationwith dailystudy practice.Students shouldideally study/review vocabularyandpractice pronunciationfor30-60minutes/day.Reading English-language newspapers,magazines andbooks,and watchingEnglish filmclassics,popular moviesandtelevisionshows fromAnglo-American countriesare highlyrecommended.
3.Weekly studytime requirement.In orderto masterthe contentsofthiscourse,students shouldspend about6hours aweek,including classtime,completing homeworkassignments,reviewing textbookand videomaterial,learning vocabulary,practicing pronunciationand participatingin extra-curricularactivities.
4.Required class,laboratory,discussion,QA,homework orthesis,unit tests,finalexams,etc.,work requirementsfor students.Attendance ismandatory forthis class,as isvocal participationinclassdiscussions,spokenactivities,and partnerand groupactivities.Participation inindividual andsmall-group spokenfinalexams isrequired,as isindividual pronunciationand vocabularystudy/practice bothinside andoutsidethe classroom.Studentsareexpected to complete allvideo and written homeworkassignmentsandself-study assignments.Class timewill accountfor twohours eachweek.Studentsshould expectto spendabout fourhours eachweek onhomeworkandself-study.If studentsadequatelycomplete thein-class,homeworkandself-study assignmentsand receivea passingscoreon theoral andlistening exams,theywillreceive2credits forthe class.
